"Conquer the Canyon"
Run in the footsteps of champions. For 25 years, perennial league and CIF champion Brea Olinda High School cross country teams have hosted the Brea Invitational at Carbon Canyon Regional Park each fall. Now, for the first time, the school is making the run available to the public. The inaugural Wildcat Run offers the chance to come and "Conquer the Canyon" on Oct. 4, 2014 at 7:30 a.m. The 3-mile course takes runners through Orange County's only giant redwood grove, alongside a serene lake, through rugged canyon trails and to the top of a ridge that offers stunning views of Catalina Island and the Palos Verdes peninsula. After the run, stay to watch some of Southern California's finest prep runners take on the same course as they race to win the Brea Invitational. All proceeds benefit the Brea Olinda High cross country programs. Here are the details When: Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014 Time: 7:30 a.m. Location: Carbon Canyon Regional Park, Brea, CA (Lambert Rd., ½ mile east of Valencia Ave.) Registration: Same-day signups. Cash only. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. in the park. Cost: $10 per person. Parking: It's a county regional park, which charges $5 to park on weekends. Free street parking is available across the street in the nearby residential area. Awards: Top 15 male and top 15 female finishers receive medals. Timing: Computerized, hand-timed results will be posted soon after the run's completion.
