Alumni Run, Qualifying for Camp and A Snail's Pace XC Night

7/24/2014

The annual Brea-Olinda High School alumni run is this Saturday, 7/26/2014, at Olinda Ranch. The run is a head-to-head competition among the current BOHS athletes and their predecessors. We use traditional cross country scoring where the aggregate score of top 5 athletes score for each team (1st place earns 1 point, 19th place earns 19 points, low score wins). Last year on the boys side the current athletes edged out the alumni 28-27 and current girls won 314-376. Parents, siblings, neighbors and complete strangers are encouraged to come support our athletes and alumni. Athletes are asked to arrive at 7:15 to warm up for the 8:00 a.m. race start time. Immediately after the run we will have snacks and time to mengle. The last order of the day are the inductions to the BOHS XC Hall of Fame. Inductees are nominated throughout the year and are given this prestigious honor for the hard work and dedication they have contributed to our program.

Typically the top 12 athletes from the Alumni Run are invited to our summer camp which will be held in Mammoth Ca. from 8/12-16. It's important to note that if you finish in the top 12 this doesn't mean that you automatically earn a spot to camp. When determining who attends camp Coach Mattern, Rainwater and Wiley make the final decision. We take into consideration attendance, attitude, performance and durability. The base of Mammoth is 7,800ft and the girls will be running around 55-60 miles while gone, the boys will be running more. More information will be posted next week.

On a separate note, Wednesday July 30th A Snail's Pace is hosting its annual XC night. They give athletes 10% off and also donate an additional 10% of sales from BOHS athletes to the program. This is a great opportunity to get a great deal on training and racing shoes.

Lastly, if you haven't made your summer donation please do so. You're not required to donate to participate in the summer program however if you have the means it is greatly appreciated. If you have given the suggested donation of $150 we are grateful for your contribution that allows the summer program to exist.
