attendance and tasks

8/2/2015

Hello to all,

On Friday night we had 0 of our top 7 girls and 4 of our top 7 boys at practice. Unfortunately, this is a accurate representation of attendance over the summer.

The kids that have been regularly attending look great but it's those who are not at practice that are concerning. Everyone can rationalize their absences and I understand the logic in many cases but this doesn't mean it's without consequence. We all know that your training suffers when you are not at practice so running on your own is not a replacement for being present. What I'm getting at is that you can not expect to see huge improvements if YOU are missing a ton of practices. If we are looking to repeat at State Champions on the boys side and earn a birth to the State Meet on the ladies side we can't have abysmal attendance. Previously I told you that if you are in town you need to be at practice and you need to report your absence on xcstats.com if you are going to be gone; this is still true.

Moving forward your attendance will be checked by your training log. This will allow the coaches a few more minutes to talk with athletes before we start running and will ensure that you're doing your log. "Coach, I don't want to do my training log." Cool, then you don't want to be on the team. "Coach, my mom said I can miss practice." That's fine but you're less likely to reach your goals.

Some of you still haven't created an xcstats account please do so now. The password is "BOHS2015!" If you have an account make sure that your email address along with a parent email address is on file.

READ THIS TOO
Attendance over the summer is going to influence you in two ways. First, it will determine who stays on the team. 85 athletes makes for a large team especially if I'm having to chase them around to come to practice.
Second, as the schedule says, attendance will play a role in who gets invited to Oregon. When I wrote that I didn't dream that we would have this bad of out turnout so I'm going to reward those with better attendance. If you are in the 7-13 range on the team, out work the athletes around you and earn your ticket to Oregon.

DO THIS
  1. Come to practice.
  2. Create an xcstats account. If you already have one make sure that the email address for you and your parents are correct.
  3. Log every run. This is how I'll be taking attendance moving forward. No log= you weren't at practice.
