A travel meet is not too common for most teams. A travel meet in Texas however, is near rare. Yet, that’s exactly what 12 of the top runners at Brea did this past weekend. At the Southlake Carroll Invite, the top 7 came to race well and race well they did. The boys got 2nd out of almost 50 teams from the great state of Texas and had a remarkable time doing so. Tyler Spicer ran a fantastic race, being the team’s top runner at 15:51 for the 5k. Shane Gaffikin also ran a fantastic race, clocking a PR for the 3 mile and 5k with a time of 16:00. John Dempsey and Jon Tobin finished in close proximity of each other, they clocked times of 16:16, and 16:20, respectively. Chris Thornburgh and Tommy Valenti both managed their ways to 3 mile PR’s as well with times of 16:25 a piece, Chris just narrowly leaning Tommy for the 5th spot by 0.04 seconds. Jonathan Manara finished at a fantastic time for a freshman at 16:40 to round out the top 7.
Led by Carlos Perez's time of 17:21, Brea JV placed 5th at Southlake Carroll Invite. Carlos got out fast, competing with ease against D1 competition. Notably, Mason Harding, the blades slicin’ and dicin’ the field, finished just behind Jack Hannum, the pair taking jerseys left and right. The only more impressive pair on the field was Ryan Daedler and freshman Jack Livingston. Jack's past experience in racing served him well over the course, giving him the confidence to stick with the sophomore. The duo’s performance would have been a quality 5th Lethal Weapon movie, as the pair consistently worked together to kick butt.
The crew takes on Woodbridge this week as fast times seem to also be in store.
