Captain's Log - State

11/28/2018

California State Championship is not just another race, It is a race for those teams who have trained long and hard, for those who put in 60 to 70 + miles a week, and who have the strength to outperform their competitors. The Brea Varsity team came in ranked 9th in the California Div 3 teams. The team stepped to the line and did not hold back. They gave it everything in their body and ended with 8th place out of the 24 teams that competed in the division 3 state meet.

Shane Gaffikin led the team with a finishing time of 16:01 and 21st place finish. Despite battling a sickness that week, Jonathan Manara did what he had to do for the team and finish 42nd with a time of 16:22. Ryan Daedler with his almighty speed, passed his competition and scored a time of 16:44 placing 74th for the team. Manny Debarros coming out as the second fastest freshman in his division, placing 87th, and achieving a time of 16:51 as a freshmen perfectly showed how amazing and tough Manny is to his competitors and we are very excited to see his continuous success during track next year. Jack Hannum racing his last race of the season, proved victorious as he achieved a time of 16:54 with a placement of 93rd; Jacks effort throughout this season and his dedication truly helped Jack stand out from the rest of the athletes and Jack will be truly missed once he departs to college. Matthew Apahidean (17:21. Placement 137) and Carlos Perez (18:01. Placement 178) also helped contribute towards benefitting our team towards placing 8th and these quick athletes will be highly anticipated to achieve great success during track season!

The team's effort during this season and dedication to this program proved to be fantastic. Our future success and dedication to this sport will most definitely carry us to that State Championship title next year and if our team continues to put in the effort and do everything the coach tells us to to, that state title shall not be difficult to achieve. Our team being the youngest team to race at state this year truly proves our teams strength, and next year a majority of our other division 3 competitors will fear what we will be capable of next year!
