MOC and the Qualifier

Hello to all,

Tomorrow we are competing at two meets. The distance runners will be at Azusa Pacific University for the Meet of Champions (MOC) and the rest of the team will be at Covina High School for The Qualifier.

The Qualifier
This will be the first year that we compete at The Qualifier which is held at Covina High School. You can find meet information here. They have great selection of field events and track relays. Coach Valenti will let you know what events you'll be competing in. 

Buses will depart BOHS at 7:32 and return around 4:00 p.m. if you have questions about this meet please email Coach Valenti at dvalenti@bousd.us. 

Meet of Champions
We will have a bus leaving BOHS at 8:50 a.m. and one bus leaving APU for BOHS at 9:50 p.m. This is a huge meet for our team as each athlete is entered in a race based on their personal record (PR). All of the competitors in each heat will have a similar time which lends to fast racing and many new PR's. There is a morning session and an evening session. The evening session consists of the top 2 heats of each event/level: boys f/s, boys varsity and girls in the 800, 1600/mile and 3200. Just a side note: modern tracks are 400m meaning that 4 laps would be 1600 but a mile is 1609.344m. At some large meets they will contest the mile which is the case at MOC in the top heat. The meet directors will move the start line back 9.334m to run the full mile. The lesson here is 4 laps around most tracks isn't actually a mile:)
As a spectator the evening session is a great event to attend as they pack these events into a two hour window. Regardless of what time your race is, MOC is the perfect setting to set a new PR. 
If you want to take your athlete home after the meet remember that athletes are only allowed to travel from meets with their parents not friends (even with parent permission).
