The 2015 version of the Alumni Run was one to remember. I would like to start by saying thank you to all of those who attended and a special thanks to all of those who helped put on the run. On the men's side the Alumni pulled out a narrow victory winning 27-30. The ladies score was a bit more lopsided with the current athletes taking the win, 23-39.
Cody Nguyen ran a intelligent race to win the Mattern Run (formerly known as the Alumni Run). National standout and multi-State Champion Austin Tamagno followed the suicidal pace of 2015 graduate Chris Dideo for the first 400m and pressed from there. Nguyen took a few minutes to recognize that Tamagno was trying to gap the field early and was able to pull even around the 8 minute mark of the 2.3 mile run. With 400m to go they were shoulder to shoulder and then Nguyen, a 1:50 half-miler, unleashed his kick and was able to come away with the win. Nguyen's time of 11:18 broke the previous course record by 12 seconds. On the ladies side senior Carly Halm shaved 67 seconds off of her 2014 time to bring home the win in 14:25 (3rd fastest time in course history). Coming off a stellar 2014-15 season, Halm who has run 18:23 at Mt. SAC, 5:17 for 1600m and 11:39 for 3200m had her eye on the win. Perhaps most impressive stat from the ladies race is the time of the 5th place runner. In 2014 Bri Rios was the 5th current BOHS girl in 16:42. This year Jen Frazier, transitioning back from a season of long and triple jump, was 5th running 15:41, 61 seconds faster than Rio's time.. This is a great start to the year and we look forward to many more highlights to come. Full results can be found here. Comments are closed.
