Monday morning the kids will run 3 miles on their own and then come to the last practice of the summer. We'll be meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the Courthouse for a tempo run to finish up the summer.
As school starts it is imperative that parents are active participants in their athletes health. I remind the kids rather frequently that they need to get a good nights sleep (8 hours), eat plenty of healthy food and to hydrate (approximately 1 oz of water/ pound of body weight). With your help (athletes and parents) we can provide the safest conditions possible. When your athletes leaves for school they need to have a snack, lunch, a second snack and a large bottle of water. If we are lax on sleep, hydration and proper nutrition we are risking serious heat related injuries. Every year I end up in the emergency room with a athlete who is dehydrated due to improper nutrition/hydration; please make sure that this is not your athlete. If they don't eat lunch or hydrate they are not allowed to practice and need to communicate this to me. Missing a practice is a small price to pay when the pay off is your child's safety. I look forward to a great academic year and a record setting cross country season.
